Orla, the Sea Monster
Orla was an octopus who had just moved into a new home in the bottom of the sea. She spent her days decorating every room, playing with rocks, and exercising her tentacles. One day, she decided to throw a big party for the whole neighbourhood. First, she approached Carl the crab who was trying to carry a big rock. "This is so hard!" said Carl. "I'll never be able to finish my house! These rocks are way too heavy for me to carry."
"Hello, neighbour! I'm having a party in a couple days, would you like to come?" asked Orla raising her tentacles.
"Ohh! It's a SEA SEA MO-MO-MONSTER!" shouted Carl and swam away as fast as he could.
"He must be in a hurry, I'll catch up with him later," thought Orla to herself and went back home.
Later that night, Orla couldn't stop thinking of Carl's problem. "I can make him a beautiful house," said Orla with a smile and went outside to collect some rocks. She was so strong and fast that she built the house in only one night. Just before Carl woke up, Orla went PUFF! and disappeared behind a cloud of black ink.
"Oh wow, look at this beautiful house! I wonder who did this for me?" said Carl excitedly.
That day, Orla went out again and decided to invite another neighbour to her party.
"Have you seen my ball?" asked Betty the betta fish to her sister Bibi.
"I don't know what you're talking about! I haven't seen it at all," replied Bibi with a frown.
"Hello, neighbours! I'm having a party in a couple days, would you like to come?" asked Orla raising her tentacles.
"Ohh! It's a SEA SEA MO-MO-MONSTER!" shouted both Betty and Bibi and swam away as fast as they could.
"They must be in a hurry, I'll catch up with them later," thought Orla to herself and went back home.
Later that night, Orla couldn't sleep thinking of Betty and Bibi's problem. "I can make a beautiful ball for them," said Orla and went outside to collect some sea moss. She was so crafty with her eight arms that she turned the moss into a bright green ball in only one night. Just before Betty and Bibi woke up, Orla went PUFF! and disappeared behind a cloud of black ink.
"Oh wow, look at this beautiful ball! I wonder who did this for us?" shouted Betty and Bibi with joy.
During the next couple of days, Orla tried inviting every single neighbour to her party but every time she approached them, they just swam away. When the day finally came, Orla waited and waited but nobody showed up.
"I guess they were right, why would anybody come if I'm just a scary sea monster," said Orla with big tears on her face.
Just when she was about to go to bed, she heard some strange sounds coming from the living room.
"SURPRISE!" shouted every fish from the entire neighbourhood.
"But what are you all doing here?," said Orla in surprise. "All I am is a sea monster, remember?
"Oh, yes, about that, we're terribly sorry," said Carl looking at the ground. "We figured out it was you who helped us in the end and we wanted to thank you."
"But how did you find out?"
"Don't you see? You always left us a clue," said Betty with a smile. "Every time you left, there was a small cloud of black ink. It's only sea monsters like you who can do that."
Orla had a laugh and decided to throw the party after all. They all had fun dancing and playing games all night. When the party was over, everybody went to hug Orla and thanked her for all the kind things she had done for them. Not only did she throw the best party of the year but for the first time in her life, she made very good friends.
